A memorable event in your life
I
believe that I went through a lot of events that brought various feelings to
me. Some are good while some are worth forgotten. Above all, there is one event
that seems to be memorable to me. It happened on the first day of April when my
SPM results were to be declared.
I had been waiting for the day with anxiety and
curiosity since the moment I left my examination desk. I got up at six O'clock.
I took bath and prayed to God to grant my success. I was somewhat uneasy and
restless. My mind was swinging between hope and fear. It was a strange stage of
anxiety and expectation as if I was on the burning plane, getting ready for
parachuting to save my life. I was not sure what was lotted for me. My parents
had high expectation of me. At one moment I was sure that I would pass
obtaining Grade 'A'. Again, I feared that if I failed any of the subjects. I
was not among the top-ranked students in my school. For me, the possibility of
pass or fail is almost equal. In short, I was in a very disturbed state of
mind.
Before the recess bell rang, I was already at the school compound with a few of my classmates. I was getting more and more restless when I heard a few teachers talking about this year’s SPM performance statistics. My hands were shaking and heart throbbing. Fortunately, some of my friends especially Amni and Darren knew how to handle the terrified situation by making us laugh out loud just like how we did in our school days.
We
gathered outside the school the school hall after an announcement made by the
school examination secretary, Mr Anand Bakshi that results were ready to be
collected. One name after another was called according to the alphabetical
order. However, my teacher skipped my name. Suddenly, I was asked to take the
exam results slip in the school principal’s office. I asked my teacher why my
slip was taken but what I saw was her emotionless facial expression and her
hand pointing to the office building.
I tried to behave like normal although my legs
were like weigh 100 pounds each. About 3 meters from the office, I could see
the school principal and my dad chatting happily. I was welcomed by their cheerful
faces. The slip was given to me. There was a moment of silence before tears of
joy rolling down on my cheeks. I thanked to Almighty Allah for the success
which he granted me. Higher than my target, I got 10 A’s for SPM. The principal
was overwhelmed with joy and pride until he invited my dad to reveal my
results.
The whole atmosphere of the house was at once changed that evening. Friends and relatives poured in to congratulate me. Tea and sweets were served to all who came. Many of my relatives brought sweet-boxes for me. All were in jolly and happy mood. My mother prepared nice dishes for the lunch. Two of my friends were also invited to dine. Like never before I was so happy in my life. In midst of all rejoicing, I reminisced the day that I felt worthless due to my worrisome grade in my trial results. Experience is indeed the best teacher. I learned this on that memorable day.
